Wide capitals with stems that swell and pinch like twisted ribbon, by Ellmer Stefan, from the Pyte Legacy set born in Pyte's 2016 free font every Monday project.
About
Gyrator takes a wide, wedge-serifed capital and cuts each stem into lens-shaped swellings, so straight strokes look turned on a lathe and the bowls flicker between thick and thin. It works best big and short: a word or two on a poster, label or title. A single style with a slashed zero, part of Pyte Legacy, the overhauled pick of the 2016 weekly fonts that won Visuelt Gold in 2017 and made Typographica's Typefaces of 2016.
Classification
Wide, sharp-serifed capitals whose stems swell and pinch into spindle shapes, so every stroke reads as a twist. A decorative 19th-century idea pushed into abstraction.
