A Bitstream version of Hermann Zapf's Melior (1952), extended with a Cyrillic character set by Natalia Vasilyeva for ParaType, available in four styles.
About
Originally designed by Hermann Zapf for Stempel and Linotype as a newspaper text face, Melior is distinguished by its super-ellipse construction, which gives its letterforms a subtly squared-off roundness. This Bitstream adaptation retains the legible, classical structure suited to extended text at a range of sizes. The Cyrillic version was developed by Natalia Vasilyeva and licensed by ParaType in 2002.
Classification
A Bitstream adaptation of Hermann Zapf's Melior (1952), itself a transitional serif informed by the super-ellipse geometry, with squared-off rounded strokes bridging classical and modernist forms. The Cyrillic extension by Natalia Vasilyeva was licensed by ParaType in 2002.
