A Bitstream adaptation of Georg Trump's Trump Mediaeval (1954–60), extended to Cyrillic by Vladimir Yefimov and Isabella Chaeva in 2010, with old-style figures, ligatures and small caps across five styles.
About
The design preserves the distinctive character of Trump Mediaeval: crisp, angular letterforms with wedge-shaped serifs that give the impression of stone-cut lettering. The italic follows the sloped roman convention, departing only for a handful of key characters in both Latin and Cyrillic. The Cyrillic extension, released in 2010, maintains this same approach, and a Black weight was added in 2011 by Yefimov.
Classification
Based on Georg Trump's Trump Mediaeval (Linotype, 1954–60), a transitional serif with crisp angularity, wedge-shaped serifs and a sloped roman italic. The design sits between classical and modernist sensibilities, with stone-carved qualities reminiscent of lapidary letterforms.
