A 2002 digital revival of a 1930s Cyrillic Caslon, redrawn by Manvel Shmavonyan from the 1962 Polygraphmash newspaper display family for use in both display and text settings.
About
Zagolovochnaya traces its origins to a Cyrillic adaptation of Caslon produced in the late 1930s, later recast as the Zagolovochnaya gazetnaya newspaper display family at Polygraphmash in 1962. Isay Slutsker redrew the artwork in the late 1990s before Shmavonyan completed the digital version for ParaType in 2002. Despite its display heritage, the face performs equally well at text sizes, with old-style figures, alternates and discretionary ligatures included.
Classification
A Cyrillic revival of Caslon, originally digitised from 1930s Cyrillic Caslon letterforms via the 1962 Polygraphmash Zagolovochnaya gazetnaya type family. The old-style serif construction with humanist proportions places it firmly in the old-style category.
