A two-style Latin and Cyrillic revival of the Dutch old-style tradition, tracing its lineage from Nicholas Kis's 1670s punchcuts through Linotype Janson and the Bitstream adaptation, with the Cyrillic extension completed at ParaType in 1999.
About
The typeface derives from type cut by Hungarian punchcutter Nicholas Kis in Amsterdam between 1670 and 1690, considered among the finest examples of the Dutch old-face style. Its route to this edition runs through Chauncey H. Griffith's 1937 Linotype Janson and the Bitstream version of that design. Vladimir Yefimov developed the Cyrillic extension at ParaType in 1999, making the family suitable for text setting in both Latin and Cyrillic scripts.
Classification
A Dutch old-style revival tracing back to Nicholas Kis's punchcutting of 1670–90, transmitted via Chauncey H. Griffith's 1937 Linotype Janson and later the Bitstream version; the letterforms display the characteristic Dutch old-face traits of high contrast, sturdy serifs and angled stress.
