A single-weight display typeface designed by Igor Nastenko in 1993, drawing on Old Russian ecclesiastical lettering traditions with tall, compressed forms and decorative calligraphic details.
About
Designed at the Design Studio of Igor Nastenko, Russia-Church takes its visual cue from pre-Petrine Russian church scripts, rendering compressed capitals with pointed apexes and decorative ink-trap-like incisions. The unicase approach and historical ornamental character make it strictly a display face. It is published by SPSL and distributed through ParaType.
Classification
The specimen shows tall, compressed letterforms with blackletter-influenced construction, decorative calligraphic details and an Old Russian ecclesiastical character. Classified as display due to its highly ornamental, historically styled design unsuitable for body text.
