A typographic redevelopment of the 1936 DIN 1451 standard letterform, extended to eight weights with true designed italics and a set of 270 copyright-free symbols.
About
Parachute redesigned the original DIN 1451 road-signage standard into a fully typographic family, completed in 2002 and first published in 2003. Unlike mechanical obliques common in DIN revivals, the italics here are purpose-drawn, and lowercase ascenders are set taller than the capitals. Each weight includes 270 copyright-free symbols covering packaging, transport, environment and urban life, alongside OpenType features including small caps and old-style figures.
Classification
Rooted in the DIN 1451 industrial standard of 1936, PF Din Text Pro is a geometric sans-serif with the rectilinear, constructed character typical of German standards lettering. The family was redesigned from scratch for typographic use, with true italics rather than mechanical obliques.
