slabgeometric slabitalic
Luga specimen from ParaType

A 1994 geometric slab serif from SoftUnion, modelled closely on ITC Lubalin Graph, available in five weights with obliques and a shadow style.

About

Designed by Nikolay Vsesvetsky at SoftUnion in 1994, Luga follows the structure of ITC Lubalin Graph – Herbert Lubalin's 1974 slab-serif adaptation of ITC Avant Garde Gothic – with monoline strokes and square, unbracketed serifs. The family spans five weights, each with an oblique, plus a shadow variant for display use. It extends the Lubalin Graph model with Cyrillic support.

Classification

Geometric slab serif closely modelled on ITC Lubalin Graph, which itself applies slab serifs to the geometric structure of ITC Avant Garde Gothic. Monoline strokes with square, unbracketed serifs are characteristic of the style.
