sans-serifhumanist sans
Humanist 531 specimen from ParaType

A Bitstream adaptation of Hans Eduard Meier's Syntax (1968), extended with a Cyrillic character set developed at ParaType in 1999 by Manvel Shmavonyan and Isay Slutsker.

About

Rooted in the Renaissance old-style tradition, the design features near-optically even stroke thickness and vertical strokes inclined one degree to the right, lending it warmth absent from most grotesques. The four-weight Latin range runs from Book to Ultra Black, serving both text and display settings. The Cyrillic extension won Diplomae at both the Kirillitsa'99 and bukva:raz! type design competitions.

Classification

Based on Hans Eduard Meier's Syntax (Stempel, 1968), this is a humanist sans-serif with stroke contrast derived from Renaissance old-style letterforms. Near-optically even line thickness and vertical strokes inclined one degree to the right distinguish it from neutral grotesques.
