About

Designed at ParaType in 1993, Herold draws on Heinz Hoffman's original Reclameschrift for H. Berthold (Berlin, 1901) and the Russian Herold cut from Berthold's St. Petersburg foundry. The Bold style is based on the Herold Heavy of 1904 by the same designer. The family supports discretionary ligatures and alternates suited to poster, packaging and magazine applications.

Classification

A decorative headline typeface in Art Nouveau style, reviving H. Berthold's Herold Reclameschrift (1901) and its Heavy variant (1904). Its ornamental, advertising character places it firmly in the display category.
