Gals specimen from ParaType

A 1993 Type Market design closely modelled on Gill Sans, offering five styles across three weights with Latin and Cyrillic coverage.

About

Designed by Alexander Kustov at Type Market in 1993, Gals follows the proportions and calligraphic sensibility of Eric Gill's 1928 Monotype typeface, itself influenced by Edward Johnston's London Underground lettering. The family spans Light, Book and Bold weights with italics on the latter two, making it suitable for both text and display use. Published through ParaType's reseller catalogue.

Classification

Closely related to Gill Sans, which itself sits between humanist and geometric traditions, with calligraphic roots visible in letterform details such as the double-storey 'a' and tapered strokes.
