A sharp-serifed display typeface originally designed by Ernst Friz in 1965, extended with a bold by Victor Caruso, italics by Thierry Puyfoulhoux, and a Cyrillic by Alexander Tarbeev for ParaType in 1997.
About
Originally drawn for Visual Graphic Corp. and licensed by ITC in 1974, Friz Quadrata is characterised by near-zero stroke contrast and pointed, wedge-like serifs that give it an angular, forceful presence at large sizes. The ParaType release adds Cyrillic support, making the four-style family usable across Latin and Cyrillic scripts for headlines and advertising.
Classification
Non-contrasting strokes with sharp, wedge-like serifs place this firmly in the display serif category. Its angular construction and pointed terminals give it a distinctive, almost incised character suited to headlines and advertising rather than text setting.
