A dark, angular disconnected script based on Matthew Carter's Cascade Script (1965), extended with Cyrillic, Greek and Central European characters by Oleg Karpinsky for ParaType in 2011.
About
Originally released by Mergenthaler Linotype in 1965, Cascade Script drew on an earlier Ludlow foundry design; this ParaType version is the Bitstream adaptation, Freehand 471. The letterforms suggest a broad-tipped marker, with heavy strokes and angular, disconnected construction suited to poster and signage work. Extended character support covering Latin, Cyrillic and Greek Monotonic was added by Oleg Karpinsky.
Classification
A disconnected, angular script that evokes handwriting with a heavy marker. Originally a Bitstream version of Matthew Carter's Cascade Script (1965), it belongs to the informal brush script tradition.
