A decorative modern serif display face designed by Vladimir Yefimov in 1992, drawing on Firmin Didot, ITC Didi and Russian typographic tradition.
About
Designed at ParaGraph in 1992, Didona blends the high contrast of Firmin Didot's letterforms with the ornamental spirit of Herb Lubalin and Tom Carnase's ITC Didi and Russian typefaces from the 18th and 19th centuries. The family is intended for headlines, advertising and display work. A 2010 revision by Yefimov added the Extra Bold weight, old style figures, ligatures and additional symbols.
Classification
A decorative stylisation rooted in Firmin Didot's high-contrast modern serif forms, with influences from ITC Didi and Russian 18th–19th century typefaces. Its overtly ornamental character and intended use in headlines and advertising place it firmly in the display category rather than text.
