Circles specimen from ParaType

A decorative display face in which each character sits within a solid circular disc, with the letterform defined by the white negative space cut from the black ground.

About

Designed by Igor Nastenko at the Design Studio of Igor Nastenko in 1992, Circles uses bold circular frames as the structural unit of the alphabet. Two styles are offered, varying in their weight or spacing treatment. The cameo construction, where letters read as counterforms punched from filled discs, gives the typeface a strongly geometric and experimental character.

Classification

Each letter is enclosed within a bold circular frame, with counters and negative space defining the letterform against the disc. This cameo/inverse treatment and strictly geometric construction place it firmly in the decorative display category.
