A single-weight display typeface by François Rappo based on Herbert Matter's lettering, with extremely tight proportions, three-dimensional structure and over 600 ligature pairs.
About
Derived from lettering by Swiss graphic designer Herbert Matter, most recognisably from the cover of his 1987 book on Giacometti, the typeface synthesises elements of Matter's graphic language across his career – from his collaborations with Cassandre to corporate logotypes for American companies. François Rappo revisited the project in 2018 for the Giacometti exhibition at the Guggenheim, where it appeared on signage and in the catalogue. Lowercase letters were drawn for this release, completing a contemporary character set alongside an exhaustive ligature system suited to expressive headline setting.
Classification
A single-weight display typeface with extremely tight proportions and a three-dimensional structural quality, rooted in the geometric graphic language of Herbert Matter. Its compressed, architectonic letterforms and extensive ligature system place it firmly in the display category.
