Designed by Ali Sajjadieh and Shahrzad Akbari, Atiq revives the aesthetic of Solar Hijri-era newspaper typefaces, blending the monumental proportions of Thuluth with the text-setting practicality of Naskh. The family contains over 1,800 glyphs and approximately 870 ligatures, making it suited to both display and body-text applications. First shown at the 2017 'Sarv-e noqre-i' (Silver Cypress) Biennial, it covers Persian, Arabic, Urdu and Kurdish.
Classification
An Arabic-script typeface bridging Thuluth calligraphic traditions and the more utilitarian Naskh style, rooted in early 20th-century lead type from Persian newspapers. Classified under serif as the closest Latin analogue to its structured, calligraphically derived letterforms.
