Louie specimen from Monkey Type

Louie is a reversed-contrast grotesk from MNKY Type that flips conventional stroke weight so horizontals dominate – arresting for headlines, but a one-idea typeface with a very limited family.

About

Louie inverts the standard grotesk contrast: horizontal strokes are heavy, verticals thin – the opposite of how type conventionally works. It is available in Regular and Italic only, making no claim to range or versatility. The concept is clear and the execution is clean, but its appeal is narrow and entirely dependent on the visual novelty of that reversal.

Classification

A grotesk-structured typeface with fully inverted stroke contrast – horizontals outweigh verticals, reversing the conventional stress pattern. The inversion is the defining and sole design idea. Available only in Regular and Regular Italic, limiting practical use to short-run display and headline contexts. Sits within MNKY Type's character-named, personality-driven library.
