A unicase handwritten typeface in two styles — Brute for general legibility and Grace for large display sizes — with a reverse-slant calligraphic construction and deliberately irregular, stone-carved letterforms.
About
Morta's design inverts the slant direction of conventional italic writing to produce an unsettling, mirror-like quality, reinforced by calligraphic strokes and forms deliberately free of sharp corners. The unicase construction references ancient Latin inscriptions where only capitals were used, and a built-in Interpunct stylistic set replaces word spaces with middle dots. Two styles — Brute and Grace — address legibility at different scales, with coverage spanning Latin, Greek, Cyrillic, Georgian, Arabic and Hebrew across more than 500 languages.
