A free display serif revived from the sign over a Warsaw milk bar, overhanging crossbars and all.
About
Bar Sady comes from the lettering above Bar Mleczny Sady, a milk bar that has served Warsaw's Żoliborz district since the 1960s. The revival was a 2023 Warsaw participatory budget project: Mateusz Machalski and Małgorzata Bartosik lifted the original letters, tidied them and drew a full character set, adding a Bold to round out the family. It is free in Regular, Medium and Bold plus a variable font, with Latin for most European languages.
Classification
A high-contrast display serif with bracketed serifs and ball terminals, revived from one shop sign. Crossbars on letters such as A, H and Y reach past the stems, which gives a line of type its sign-painted outline.
