Down specimen from Lux Typo

A 12-style humanist sans by Greg Lindy, originating from a hospital wayfinding sign and refined into a purposeful text face with six weights and matching italics.

About

Designed by Greg Lindy and released in 2025, Down began as a study of the quiet clarity found in functional signage lettering. Six weights from Light to Ultra, each with a corresponding italic, give the family a broad tonal range suited to both text and display applications. The design prioritises stability and balance over ornament, with proportions that feel humanely functional rather than mechanically constructed.

Classification

Down displays the functional clarity and humanist proportions typical of humanist sans-serifs, with an emphasis on legibility and balanced counters drawn from signage traditions rather than geometric or grotesque models.
