Milka
Lettersoup · Milka Peikova, Botio Nikoltchev, Ani Petrova, Anelia Pashova, Adam Twardoch, Andreas Eigendorf · 2014

A digital revival of a 1979 stencil alphabet by Bulgarian artist Milka Peikova, expanded into eight styles ranging from clean to heavily distressed by a collaborative team of Bulgarian and Berlin-based designers.
About
The base design preserves the clean geometry of Peikova's original 1979 stencil letterforms, while six additional styles — Soft, Dry, Crunchy, Brittle, Baked and Aged — introduce progressive degrees of roughness drawn from stencil and letterpress printing traditions. Development began in 2014 under Botio Nikoltchev, working alongside the original designer (who passed away in 2016 aged 96), two younger Bulgarian designers and two Berlin-based collaborators. The family supports an extensive Latin, Cyrillic and Greek character set, including localised forms for Russian and Bulgarian.
Classification
An 8-style stencil family rooted in a 1979 Bulgarian stencil alphabet, with variants simulating letterpress and stencil printing effects at various degrees of wear. The stencil construction and display orientation firmly place it outside conventional text categories.
