Lota Grotesque specimen from Latinotype

A 56-style grotesque family from Latinotype, structured across four subfamilies that share identical metrics but differ in default character programming, covering 219 languages from a 760-character set.

About

Designed by Daniel Hernández with Rodrigo Fuenzalida and the Latinotype team, the family spans seven weights with matching italics and a substantial typographic toolkit including small caps, discretionary ligatures, alternate characters and a range of figure styles. The four subfamilies – Lota Grotesque, Alt 1, Alt 2 and Alt 3 – are metrically identical, allowing substitution without reflow while offering distinct default letterform choices. Language support extends to 219 languages within a 760-character set.

Classification

A contemporary grotesque with seven weights and matching italics, organised into four subfamilies that differ in default character programming rather than proportion or width. The construction follows the grotesque tradition without explicit revival sources.
