Australis Pro specimen from Latinotype

A hybrid roman serif by Francisco Gálvez Pizarro, originally awarded first prize at the Morisawa International Type Design Competition in 2002 and released as a complete six-style family a decade later.

About

Australis Pro sits between calligraphic tradition and contemporary roman design, resulting in a serif with a distinct personality suited to editorial and refined typographic contexts. The family spans three weights – Regular, Bold and Heavy – each with a matching italic, covering the most common requirements for text composition. Its release in 2012 was timed to coincide with the reopening of the Morisawa competition that first recognised its merit.

Classification

Described as a hybrid roman, Australis Pro blends characteristics of transitional and contemporary serif design, with a distinct calligraphic influence that places it between classical roman and more modern serif styles.
