A deliberately unassuming neo-grotesque from Kris Sowersby, designed to carry no individual designer's signature — the typographic equivalent of Jasper Morrison's Super Normal.
About
Released in 2017, Untitled Sans draws on early grotesque references — Akzidenz Grotesk's straight leg and Helvetica's 90° terminals — without announcing either influence. Loose spacing and stripped-back forms produce a quiet, functional presence suited to contexts that demand neutrality over character. Available in five weights with italics and as a variable font (weight axis 300–900), it sits alongside Untitled Serif as part of Klim's Untitled Collection. It won the Tokyo TDC Annual Award in 2019.
Classification
Modern lineal neo-grotesque. Designed to carry no individual stylistic signature — references Akzidenz Grotesk (straight R leg, teardrop 'a') and Helvetica (90° terminals on C, r, s) without calling on either directly. Conceptually rooted in Jasper Morrison and Naoto Fukasawa's Super Normal project. Evolved from an internal project called "National Plain" (begun c. 2009), a stripped-back variant of Sowersby's National.
