A contemporary Arabic typeface that reinterprets the flowing rhythm of Nastaliq through simplified, filled forms and more uniform stroke weights, offered across seven weights plus a variable font.
About
Masaq preserves the characteristic horizontal extensions and ligature flow of Nastaliq calligraphy whilst replacing its ornate detail with fuller, more direct shapes that recall the clarity of sans-serif design. The family spans seven weights with a variable font that includes elongation axes for progressively stretching word connections in headline settings. OpenType features include suspended letterforms, reduced-descender yaa, composite characters and alternate diacritics, alongside support for the Saudi riyal symbol.
Classification
A contemporary Arabic typeface rooted in the Nastaliq tradition but restructured with Naskh-like clarity, featuring filled terminals and more uniform stroke weights. It straddles calligraphic and sans-like legibility, making a straightforward serif/calligraphic classification inadequate, but Naskh-influenced Arabic script with Nastaliq rhythm is the closest fit.
