A five-weight sans-serif optimised for small text sizes of 5–10pt, with ink traps, open counters and compact letterforms drawn from the agate type tradition.
About
Designed by Shiva Nallaperumal, Trench Sans addresses the specific demands of fine print and small-scale typesetting through ink traps, short descenders and open counters that resist fill at tight sizes. Stylistic alternates give access to a serifless capital I, double-storied g and alternate M, N, W and w forms. It forms part of ITF's wider Trench superfamily alongside Trench Round and Trench Slab.
Classification
A low-contrast sans-serif designed for small text sizes, with ink traps, compact letter shapes and open counters characteristic of agate types. The design sits closer to humanist sans traditions given its functional optical refinements and alternate glyph variants.
