Maax Micro
205TF · Damien Gautier · 2022

An optical size cut of Maax that uses inktraps to keep counterforms open below 8pt, those same traps reading as angular architectural detail when the type is enlarged.
About
Maax Micro is a precision optical size variant of Damien Gautier's Maax, built for small and very small settings. Inktraps – invisible below 8pt – prevent ink spread from closing letterform counterforms, while revealing a sharp, almost extravagant character at display sizes. Three weights with matching italics carry the full OpenType feature set of the parent family, including four stylistic sets covering standard, geometric, modern and grotesque alternates.
Classification
Optical size variant of Maax, a neo-grotesque with four stylistic alternate sets spanning standard all-purpose, geometric, modern and grotesk styles. Inktraps engineered to keep counterforms open below 8pt become visible angular features at display sizes. Three weights with matching italics; variable font versions added in 2026.
