A five-weight text serif with wedge-like serifs, open counters and oldstyle figures, designed to hold up in demanding print conditions including newsprint.
About
Developed by Khyati Trehan and Marko Hrastovec between 2014 and 2015, Tarsus was built with legibility at small sizes as a central concern, making it suitable for newspapers, books and screen use alike. Its wedge serifs and open counters maintain readability under difficult reproduction conditions, while stroke contrast is deliberately modest in the lighter weights and increases as the family grows bolder. Five weights run from Light to Bold, each with a true italic, and oldstyle figures are included as standard.
Classification
A text-optimised serif with sharp, wedge-like serifs and open counters. Stroke contrast increases with weight, from low-contrast Light to higher-contrast Bold, placing it in the wedge or lapidary serif tradition suited to demanding print environments.
