A revival of J.L. Mathieu Lauweriks's 1900 Quadratuuralfabet, expanding the original caps-only modular letterforms with a new lowercase, weight variants and refined forms.
About
Lauweriks takes the square-grid system of Dutch architect and theosophist J.L. Mathieu Lauweriks as its starting point, a design that prefigured De Stijl's geometric rigour by nearly two decades. The revival adds a full lowercase and multiple weights absent from the original caps-only alphabet. Forms are refined or replaced where the source material required it, producing a usable contemporary typeface that retains the grid-derived, almost architectural quality of its source.
Classification
Derived from Lauweriks's 1900 Quadratuuralfabet, a modular system based on the square grid, placing it firmly in the geometric display tradition with a strong Arts and Crafts / early modernist character.
