A 33-style type system by Noël Leu that deliberately blurs the boundary between serif and sans, across three optical subfamilies.

Designed by Noël Leu with assistance from Huw Williams and Grilli Type, GT Ultra fuses calligraphic stroke contrast with constructed, modernist forms to produce a family that resists easy classification. Three subfamilies, Standard, Median and Fine, each run six weights from Thin to Ultra with matching italics, giving 33 styles in total. The optical distinction between subfamilies allows the family to shift register from text to display without losing internal coherence.
Classification
GT Ultra occupies a deliberately hybrid space between sans and serif, fusing calligraphic stroke contrast with constructed letterforms. Its serif presence and historical references to centuries-old type traditions place it closest to transitional serif, though its design intent is explicitly to blur that boundary.
