BD Gitalona organises 25 static styles into five subfamilies: Book for text (nine weights), and Display, Flick, Harmony and Contrast for display work (four weights each). A separate variable font bundles all subfamilies into a single file with weight, optical size and serif axes, allowing the typeface to move between fully seriffed and sans-serif forms. Over 700 glyphs per style support broad Latin coverage, with OpenType features including small caps, old-style figures, fractions, discretionary ligatures and stylistic alternates.
Classification
Begins from a transitional serif foundation with sharp corners and variable serif thickness controlled by an optical axis; the family also spans into sans-serif subfamilies via a serif variable axis, making it a hybrid system anchored in transitional serif design.
