A seven-weight reinterpretation of the Roman square capitals found on Trajan's Column, developed through direct study of the 113 AD inscription and optimised for modern typographic requirements.
About
Rather than a digital revival in the Twombly tradition, GD Trio returns to the Capitalis Monumentalis source, studying the Trajan inscription and antecedent Greek stonework to recalibrate proportions and serifs for contemporary use. The family runs from Light to Black, with the Black weight offered as a deliberate departure from classical precedent. A variable font is included with the full family, and OpenType features extend to oldstyle figures, rare ligatures and case-sensitive forms across 200+ Latin-script languages.
Classification
A contemporary reinterpretation of Roman Capitalis Monumentalis, drawing directly from the Trajan Column inscription of 113 AD. The design sits in the flare serif tradition, with letterforms derived from classical square capitals rather than Renaissance or Baroque models, updated for digital use across seven weights including an unconventional Black.
