About
Phlegm takes its name from Herb Lubalin's favourite word, as published in a 1978 issue of U&Lc, and uses it as a starting point for a typeface rooted in that era's American typographic codes. Stroke contrast is almost entirely removed, while the serifs are accentuated to echo the Benguiat style that defined U&Lc's visual identity. The result is a raw, characterful face suited to posters, album covers and urban-inflected editorial work.
