きざし (Kizashi) specimen from Dot Colon

An experimental prototype Japanese script typeface for hiragana, combining semi-cursive gyōsho brushwork with a calligraphic sensibility.

About

Released as an alpha under the SIL Open Font License, this prototype covers basic hiragana and punctuation only. The letterforms draw their skeleton and stroke movement from gyōsho semi-cursive script, with calligraphic modulation added to give the design a distinctive rhythm. Path data, sidebearings and kerning remain largely unadjusted, and the designer notes that the letterforms may change substantially in future versions.

Classification

A prototype Japanese script typeface drawing on semi-cursive gyōsho brushwork and calligraphic rhythm, placing it firmly in the script category with a calligraphic subcategory.
