Ramiro Espinoza's Baroque revival draws from two types in the 1767 Ploos van Amstel specimen, producing a high-contrast headline family in nine styles suited to magazines and newspapers.
About
The romans derive from the Groote Paragon Romein, a condensed type of likely German origin traceable to 17th-century books and the Anton Janson foundry, while the italics follow the Aszendonica attributed to Nicholas Kis. Rather than a strict historical reconstruction, Espinoza updated the forms for contemporary use, adding an inline decorative variant, Reiher Headline Open, based on the Bold. The family's OpenType feature set includes small caps, five numeral sets, case-sensitive forms, fractions, and ornaments attributed to J.F. Rosart.
Classification
A high-contrast serif revival rooted in 17th-century Baroque types from the Ploos van Amstel specimen of 1767, with romans derived from the Groote Paragon Romein and italics from a Nicholas Kis attribution. The marked stroke contrast and crisp presence place it firmly in the Baroque/Dutch Old Style tradition.
