A display serif from Flight Mode with flat counters and forced horizontal alignment, developed from a 2021 daily type challenge into a 10-style variable family.
About
FL Prefere emerged from an experiment in constraining letterforms to an imaginary horizontal axis, producing flat counters, angular geometry and an eccentric rhythm suited to headlines and posters. The family spans five weights with matching italics, plus variable font versions for both uprights and italics. Tight default spacing suits large sizes, though the designer notes it can be loosened for smaller settings.
Classification
A high-contrast display serif with flat counters and brutal geometry, designed for large-scale use. Its forced horizontal alignment of elements gives it an angular, idiosyncratic character distinct from conventional serif classifications.
