Eska specimen from Capitalics

A 1975 Warsaw Academy display typeface by student Maria Eska, digitised by Mateusz Machalski in 2025 to mark its 50th anniversary, offered in an original and a contemporary Neue variant.

About

Originally designed under the name Rugby during a course led by Roman Tomaszewski at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, the typeface is the work of then fifth-year student Maria Eska. Fifty years after its creation, Mateusz Machalski undertook its digitisation with contributions from Małgorzata Bartosik, producing both a faithful Original and a reinterpreted Neue version. Both styles are available free of charge.

Classification

Created as a display typeface in 1975 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, with a contemporary reinterpretation (Neue) added in 2025. The display category is appropriate given its origin as a course project and its explicit labelling as a display typeface.
