A Hebrew grotesque headline typeface by Noy Naiman and Nadav Barkan, drawing on Israeli advertising lettering of the 1960s and 70s, updated in 2025 to six weights with 394 characters including vowel diacritics.
About
BarLev's design roots lie in the bold, steady lettering found in Israeli press and advertising from the 1960s and 70s, reinterpreted with contemporary precision across six weights from Ultralight to Ultrabold. The 2025 revision added three new weights, refined proportions and curves, a redesigned gimel for improved legibility, and expanded character support to 394 glyphs including nikud (Hebrew vowel points). Uppercase Latin letters are included alongside the Hebrew, making it well suited to bilingual Hebrew–Latin design work.
Classification
A headline grotesque drawing on mid-century Israeli advertising typography, with low stroke contrast and sturdy letterforms characteristic of the grotesque genre. The Hebrew script is primary, supplemented by uppercase Latin capitals.
