A six-style family organised around the tension between handwritten cursivity and mechanical fixed-width constraints, inspired by Latin lettering found on a wood panel in old Kyoto.
About
Pachinko pairs proportionally spaced text and monospaced versions in regular and bold weights, with an italic that is itself monospaced but can be switched to proportional word-spacing via a stylistic set, making it compatible with both siblings. Short ascenders and descenders and compressed M and W forms reflect the Japanese constraint of fitting characters into a square box. The mono variant includes framed letters, numbers, original bullets and pictograms referencing pachinko steel spheres and retro gaming.
Classification
A proportionally spaced sans-serif with humanist leanings, featuring short ascenders and descenders and compressed M and W forms influenced by Latin lettering in Japanese contexts. The italic is monospaced, blurring the line between text and mono subfamilies.
