A variable serif revival of Charles Malin's 1936 Zeno, offering continuous modulation between a generous text cut and a high-contrast display face across 16 static styles and two variable fonts.
About
Matthieu Cortat's interpretation of Zeno, discovered in a 1963 Officina Bodoni imprint, adds a Cyrillic character set absent from the original and extends the design across text and display optical sizes. The heavily slanted stress gives the C a distinctive silhouette, while wide serifs and taut curves lend a generous rhythm at text sizes that sharpens into lean, high-contrast elegance at display sizes. A variable font axis allows designers to traverse this range continuously, blending weight and optical size in a single interpolation.
Classification
A revival of Zeno, cut by Charles Malin in 1936, with a heavily slanted axis, wide serifs and high contrast between strokes – characteristics placing it firmly in the transitional serif tradition, with optical sizes spanning body text to high-contrast display.
