A text serif by Damien Gautier derived from the 1502–1517 Biblia poliglota complutense, designed for compact, high-readability setting in editorial and book contexts.
About
Drawings for Alcalá date to 1995, with a second version commissioned in 2011 for a French and Malagasy Bible edition. The family comprises Roman, Italic and Bold for sustained text, alongside a Black Display cut added later for headings. Titling capitals in the Roman and special ligatures in the Italic reflect the typeface's origins in early printed scripture.
Classification
A text serif rooted in early 16th-century polyglot Bible typography, with sharp, space-efficient letterforms suited to editorial and book composition. The addition of a Black Display cut extends the family toward higher-contrast display use.
