The design draws on the Scotch Roman tradition of Richard Austin and William Miller while incorporating the idiosyncratic letterforms manufactured by Padre Viegas de Menezes and Manuel José Barbosa for Tipografia Patrícia de Barbosa in Ouro Preto circa 1820. Six weights with matching italics yield twelve fonts, each carrying an extensive character set with small caps, ligatures, old-style and tabular figures, and support for over two hundred languages. It is conceived as an interpretation rather than a revival, preserving Scotch Roman clarity at small sizes while admitting the formal peculiarities of its Brazilian source material.
