Malrin specimen from Zarma Type

A single-weight fatface display face from Indonesian indie foundry Zarma Type, built on ultra-bold, high-contrast letterforms with a groovy, psychedelic retro character and over 180 OpenType alternates.

About

Malrin is a chunky, high-contrast fatface designed for headlines, logotypes and posters. It draws on the exuberant tradition of 19th-century fatface type, filtered through a retro-funk sensibility that leans into groovy, psychedelic letterform character. A single weight with an extensive alternate set makes it best suited to expressive display contexts where glyph variety matters more than weight range.

Classification

Single-weight fatface display typeface with ultra-high contrast and chunky, rounded letterforms. Technically a high-contrast serif in the 19th-century fatface tradition, but classified as display given its purely decorative, large-scale application. Filtered through retro-funk and psychedelic aesthetics rather than classical restraint. Ships with 180+ OpenType alternates and ligatures, PUA-encoded for broad software access.
