A display typeface revived from a hand-lettered masthead in the 1946–47 editions of Victor Green's Green Book, expanded into 19 styles and a variable font.
About
The letterforms draw directly from the masthead of the Green Book, a classifieds-based travel guide that provided African-Americans with safe routes and welcoming establishments across the United States. Nine weights with matching italics and a variable axis give the family practical range while preserving the expressive stroke contrast of the original hand-drawn source. Discretionary ligatures and alternates extend the typographic character of the design.
Classification
A display typeface derived from a hand-drawn masthead, featuring high stroke contrast and expressive letterforms rooted in mid-century titling type traditions. Its personality and contrasting weight place it firmly in the display category rather than a functional text serif.
