A grotesque that refuses to sit still, with brushy quirks and a pile of ligatures that knot letters together.
About
Uxum takes the plain grotesque and roughs it up: hooked joins, a curling s that reaches into the next letter and ligatures such as CHE and RRI that turn words into logos. Named after a Basque town on the French–Spanish border, it reads calmly in text and shows its character as it grows. Six weights from Ultra Light to Ultra and a variable font, covering Latin and Cyrillic.
Classification
Grotesque with irregular, brush-informed details, a large set of discretionary ligatures (CHE, RRI, LLOR, st, ct) and stylistic alternates for a, g and @. Version 2.0 of a design first released in 2019. Six weights from Ultra Light to Ultra plus a variable font, no italics. Production by Luc Chaissac. Sold per weight or as the family with the variable font from its own site through Stripe checkout; a free trial is available.
