Fraunces
Undercase · Phaedra Charles, Flavia Zimbardi · 2020

An open-source variable soft-serif inspired by early-20th-century display faces, with weight, softness, wonk and optical-size axes.
About
Fraunces takes its mannerisms from Windsor, Souvenir and the Cooper series, then rebuilds them as a four-axis variable font covering weight, softness, optical size and a dedicated wonk axis for its more eccentric, hand-inflected details. Commissioned by Google Fonts and released as fully open source, it comes with matching italics. Suited to both display headlines and, at its more restrained axis settings, running text.
Classification
Rounded, soft serif terminals with a dedicated Wonk axis place Fraunces in the display serif category despite its variable text-size range.
