A three-axis variable family by Veronika Burian and José Scaglione that interpolates continuously between sans and slab serif, condensed and expanded, across weight – all in a single file.
About
Belarius spans its serif axis from a clean grotesque to a restrained slab, avoiding the exaggerated flourishes typical of poster slabs in favour of a more measured, poignant character. Width and weight axes work in concert with the serif axis, giving designers control over an unusually wide range of typographic expression. OpenType features include stylistic sets, case-sensitive forms, standard ligatures and tabular figures.
Classification
A three-axis variable font spanning a serif axis from sans to slab, making it difficult to pin to a single category; the slab terminus and the family's evident slab-serif character places it here. The SRIF axis allows continuous interpolation between grotesque and slab forms.
