A geometric grotesque from Production Type and CSTM Fonts that sets condensed capitals, drawn from gothic wood type tradition, against circular, classically proportioned lowercase letters within a single coherent family of 20 styles.
About
Designed by Yoann Minet for Production Type with a Cyrillic extension by Ilya Ruderman and Yury Ostromentsky of CSTM Fonts, Stratos deliberately contradicts conventional typographic relationships between upper- and lowercase. The condensed caps carry the dense authority of Victorian poster type, while the minuscules follow geometric sans conventions with circular rounds and horizontal terminals. Used together, the pairing is functionally sound owing to carefully calibrated spacing and weight, and the family was recognised with a Type Directors Club Certificate of Excellence in 2017.
Classification
A geometric grotesque with circular lowercase rounds and horizontal terminals, in the tradition of classic geometric sans serifs. Its condensed capitals, inspired by gothic wood type, create an unusual internal tension between upper- and lowercase proportions that distinguishes it from conventional geometric grotesques.
