A TypeMedia graduation project by Luboslav Boyanov that reinterprets medieval Cyrillic Ustav and Skoropis manuscripts in two playful, contemporary styles.
About
The family takes its cues from medieval Cyrillic manuscript traditions that, like Blackletter, have been co-opted by nationalist movements in recent decades. By recasting Ustav and Skoropis with optimistic, contemporary forms, Boyanov aims to restore their historical and cultural richness. Each subfamily addresses one of the two source scripts, offering Latin and Cyrillic script coverage across more than thirty languages.
Classification
Prepis draws directly from medieval Cyrillic manuscript traditions, specifically Ustav and Skoropis scripts, which share a cultural lineage analogous to Blackletter in the Latin tradition. The contemporary reinterpretation preserves the historical script structures while introducing playful, modern forms.
